A few weeks ago, when I went back home, a couple teenagers from my home church and I went to a restaurant.  I sat with my back against the wall as one of my friends sat in front of me, with his back facing the door.  We all had good conversations, laughed, and overall had a great time.  I noticed my friend who sat in front of me, kept turning around and watching, nervously, to what was going on behind him.  I thought it was strange since the restaurant  was pretty empty and little movement was going on behind him.  As I kept talking to my other friends, I still kept noticing that friend would turn to glance at the door and check out what was going on.  Finally, he said, “Bella, can we switch seats?”  I asked him why and he proceeded to tell us that he can’t stand the fact that he does not know what is going on behind him.  He expressed that he has to have the view of everything so he can be prepared for anything that happens.

My friend next to me said, “Can you trust us to watch your back for you?”  That was such a revelation to me.  Why do we keep looking back over our shoulder?  Why do we keep making plan B’s when God has promised us the Plan A?

Why can’t we trust Him?

Things can look very chaotic or confusing in front of you, but don’t look back.  He is asking for you to trust Him.  He is asking if you can trust Him watching your back for you.  You were not made to do this alone.

It seems this season for me has definitely been learning how to trust Him when people may disappoint, when opportunities seem to fail, or finances seem to not come through.  Many people call these seasons a “stressful season” but I have come to find out that He was intending it to be a “trusting season”.

I challenge you, as this new year is beginning, to stay in the consistent state of just trusting Him.  He will never leave and He will always watch your back.  It may not make any sense right now or it may look like it is all crumbling down, just remember…

…breathe.

Trust Him.  Trust that He will always watch your back.
