Calling God by name

, ,

Dear friends,

For you who don’t know who or what is Elohim, it is another name for our God.  I use that name a lot for Him and I find that not many people know what it means.  It means creator of heaven and earth and it was the first name He was called in the bible.  I like to call Him this to be more specific on who I’m calling.  Of course, it’s not always “Elohim”, because maybe I need healing, I would call Him by His name, Jehovah Rophe (meaning healer).  And you might say, “He knows who your talking to, why get all specific?”

Well there are many gods out there, but there is only one true, living God.  Sometimes it is good to be specific on who you are calling and call Him by His full name.  Like us, I would answer by my nicknames: Izzy and Bella.  But every once in a while it’s nice to hear my real name, the name I started off with.  Same with God, calling Him specifically by his name.  The only thing is, we don’t exactly know at the beginning, what He named himself.  It was more of what the first generations of His people described Him as.  So in their language, they used words that described Him.

Think about it this way, what are you known for?  Are you the funny person, the dancer, the nice person, etc?  We leave a reputation, and that’s what we are known for.  Unlike God, our name wasn’t made to describe who we are.  It was cute to mommy and daddy, so that’s what they named us.  God was named after what He did and who He is.

Being specific with God, in prayer, is powerful.  You are calling him by the name he earned for doing or being the person you need at this moment or time. He has many names like the most common, Yahweh, Hosanna, Jehovah. But if you want me to, I can make another post of all His names and their meanings. God bless family and my challenge to you is, get specific with God in prayer.
